“Embrace pet insurance login” is searched thousands of times a month. Most of those people are already customers. If you’re one of them, or you’re deciding whether to become one, the more useful question is what the policy actually promises.

This review is based on Embrace’s own policy terms (the V6 state terms Embrace publishes), checked against its help center and independent reviews. Embrace’s policies are underwritten by American Modern Insurance Group and administered by Embrace Pet Insurance in Cleveland, Ohio. Terms vary by state, so your own policy documents in MyEmbrace always take priority.

This site is independent and not affiliated with Embrace or any insurer.

What Embrace covers

Embrace’s accident and illness policy covers diagnosis and treatment of accidents and illnesses, including chronic and hereditary conditions that aren’t pre-existing. That typically includes diagnostics, surgery, hospitalization, medications and specialist care, plus telemedicine consultations.

A few things depend on what’s printed on your schedule of insurance:

  • Exam fees are covered if “Physical Examination” appears on your schedule.
  • Your annual maximum, reimbursement percentage and deductible are all set on the schedule.

Dental

Embrace covers dental illness as well as dental accidents, but dental illness has its own $1,000 annual sub-limit. Routine cleanings are excluded from the insurance policy.

What Embrace excludes

  • Pre-existing conditions, though curable ones can come back into cover (see below).
  • Preventive care such as vaccinations, spaying and neutering, and wellness exams. These aren’t insurance; they fall under Wellness Rewards.
  • Behavioral problems and aggression that showed up before enrollment.
  • Boarding, including medical boarding.
  • Cosmetic procedures and breeding costs.
  • Some alternative therapies, such as Reiki and magnet therapy, and supplements and vitamins.
  • Dental cleanings.

Waiting periods, and the orthopedic catch

Timeline of Embrace pet insurance waiting periods for accidents, illnesses and orthopedic conditions

  • Accidents: no waiting period.
  • Illnesses: 14 days from your pet’s original start date.
  • Orthopedic conditions in dogs: a 180-day exclusion period for cruciate ligament disease, intervertebral disk disease (IVDD), patellar luxation and hip dysplasia.

That 180-day period is the biggest thing to understand about Embrace. A torn cruciate ligament (the dog equivalent of an ACL) is one of the most expensive common surgeries. If signs show up in the first six months, it’s excluded.

How to shorten it: Embrace lets you opt out of the orthopedic exclusion period if your vet does an orthopedic exam during the waiting period and finds no signs of these conditions. Book it early. A few hundred dollars for an exam can protect against a several-thousand-dollar exclusion.

The Healthy Pet Deductible

Embrace’s Healthy Pet Deductible rewards claim-free years: your annual deductible drops by $50 for each year you don’t receive a claim reimbursement. If your pet stays healthy, you pay less out of pocket when you eventually do need to claim.

Worked example: a cruciate surgery after the waiting period

How an Embrace claim for a $5,000 cruciate surgery splits between owner and insurer

Your dog tears a cruciate ligament in year two, well after the orthopedic exclusion period. Surgery costs $5,000. Your plan has a $500 deductible, reduced to $450 by one claim-free year, and 90% reimbursement:

  • $5,000 − $450 = $4,550
  • $4,550 × 90% = $4,095 paid by Embrace
  • You pay $905.

Illustrative example. Your deductible, reimbursement and annual maximum come from your schedule of insurance.

Pre-existing conditions: the 12-month rule

Like every insurer, Embrace excludes pre-existing conditions. But it separates curable conditions from chronic ones. Under its terms, a temporary condition that started before the illness waiting period ended stops being pre-existing if it has had no clinical signs and no treatment for 12 consecutive months.

So a dog with an ear infection before enrollment can have future ear infections covered once it’s been clear for a year. Chronic conditions, such as allergies that need ongoing treatment or diabetes, stay excluded.

Wellness Rewards: useful, but not insurance

Embrace sells Wellness Rewards, an optional plan that reimburses routine-care costs up to a set allowance. Embrace’s own terms are clear that it is not insurance: it’s a membership plan, marketed and administered by Embrace’s agency, and it isn’t available in every state. Price it separately and only buy it if the allowance is worth more to you than it costs.

How to file an Embrace claim

  1. Pay the vet and keep the itemized invoice.
  2. Submit the claim in MyEmbrace or the app, with the invoice and any medical records requested.
  3. Watch the deadline. Embrace’s terms require notice of a loss within 60 days of your policy end date or renewal. Don’t leave claims until the end of the policy year.
  4. Read the Explanation of Benefits to see how the payment was calculated.

How to cancel Embrace

You can cancel at any time by calling Embrace’s customer service. Under its terms:

  • Within 30 days, with no claims filed: full refund.
  • Within 30 days, after filing a claim: refund minus the first month’s premium.
  • After 30 days: pro-rated daily refund.

Have your next policy in place first so a waiting period doesn’t leave you exposed.

Embrace for cats

The 180-day orthopedic exclusion in Embrace’s terms is written for dogs, covering cruciate ligament disease, IVDD, patellar luxation and hip dysplasia. For cats, the main waiting periods are the standard 14 days for illness and none for accidents. Cats’ big claims tend to be urinary blockages, kidney disease, hyperthyroidism and dental disease, so the $1,000 dental illness sub-limit matters more for cat owners than the orthopedic rule. See cat dental insurance for what usually drives cat dental bills.

Who Embrace suits, and who should look elsewhere

Embrace is a good fit if you:

  • want dental illness covered, not just dental accidents;
  • expect several claim-free years and want a deductible that falls each year;
  • have a pet with a minor past problem that could come back into cover under the 12-month curable rule;
  • want your accidents covered from day one.

Compare carefully if you:

  • have a large or active dog and can’t get the orthopedic exam done early, because knee and hip problems stay excluded for six months;
  • want exam fees covered, in which case make sure they’re on your schedule before you buy;
  • mainly want routine care paid for. Wellness Rewards is a separate, non-insurance plan.

How to get the most out of an Embrace policy

  1. Book the orthopedic exam in the first weeks. It’s the single most valuable step for a dog owner.
  2. Check your schedule of insurance in MyEmbrace for exam coverage, annual maximum and reimbursement.
  3. Upload medical records early so pre-existing condition reviews don’t hold up your first claim.
  4. File claims as you go. Don’t save them for the end of the policy year, because the deadline is tied to it.
  5. Use telemedicine for minor questions. It’s included and can save an exam fee.
  6. Read your Explanation of Benefits for each claim to see exactly how the deductible and reimbursement were applied.

What to expect at renewal

Pet insurance premiums usually rise as your pet gets older, and local vet prices feed into renewal pricing too. Embrace is no exception. A few things are worth knowing before your renewal notice arrives:

  • Your deductible may fall. If you received no reimbursements in the policy year, the Healthy Pet Deductible takes $50 off at renewal.
  • The claim window closes. Embrace’s terms tie the claim deadline to the policy end or renewal date, so submit any outstanding invoices before or soon after renewal.
  • Change settings rather than cancelling. If the premium jumps, ask about a higher deductible or a lower reimbursement percentage. Starting again with a new insurer would make every existing condition pre-existing.
  • Re-check your schedule. Confirm the annual maximum, reimbursement and exam coverage still match what you want for the coming year.

Our verdict

Embrace is a good fit for owners who want dental illness cover, value a deductible that shrinks, and like the 12-month curable-condition rule. The one thing not to skip is the orthopedic exam for dogs early in the policy. Without it, the most expensive common dog surgery stays excluded for six months. If you mostly want routine care paid for, Wellness Rewards is a separate decision with its own maths.

Dog dental insurance explains what keeps dental cover valid. Pet insurance cost guide shows how deductibles and limits change your premium, and accident-only pet insurance is a cheaper alternative for some pets.
