Pet Insurance Cost Estimator

Estimate monthly pet insurance premiums for dogs and cats based on age, breed and coverage level.

What drives pet insurance prices?

Pet insurance is generally priced by your pet's species, age, breed and location, plus the coverage level, annual limit, deductible and reimbursement rate you choose. Dogs cost more to insure than cats, and premiums rise as pets get older. Breed-specific conditions — like hip dysplasia in German Shepherds or heart issues in Cavaliers — also push prices up.

What pet insurance covers

  • Accidents — injuries from falls, fights, swallowing objects, etc.
  • Illnesses — infections, cancer, chronic conditions.
  • Wellness (optional) — checkups, vaccines, dental cleanings, flea prevention.

Most policies reimburse a percentage (often 70–90%) after you meet an annual deductible. Pre-existing conditions are usually excluded.

Frequently asked questions

Is pet insurance worth it?

If you couldn't comfortably cover a $3,000–$10,000 emergency vet bill, insurance can be worthwhile. The earlier you enroll while your pet is healthy, the lower your premium and the fewer exclusions you'll face.

When should I enroll my pet?

As soon as possible. Insuring a young, healthy pet locks in lower rates and avoids pre-existing condition exclusions that are nearly impossible to get covered later.
